A scarce Tabriz carpet in a beautiful array of pastel colours, predominantly the blue ground with pea-green spandrels and central medallion. Handmade in the city of Tabriz, in northwest Iran. A centre for rug weaving since the 16th century, the region is one of the oldest in the rug weaving trade. Synonymous with intricate design and luxurious materials, this rug is testament to the history of this type of rug. The rug is in good order, with minimal wear. The blue appears to be the original shade, and not faded or washed out. Thick pile.
