This exceptional quality Nain rug dates to the second half of the 20th century. Hand made hand knotted (Turkish knot) with high thread count - the back almost as good as the front. A central floral medallion on white ground, set within a rich dark blue ground covered with interlaced floral motifs. The floral design repeated within the four corner spandrels. Flanked with a typical three guard border with repeating floral motifs and palmettes, more typical of the Isfahan carpets, of which this is a similar but superior example. The white ground traditionally a symbol of peace and purity, and the contrasting dark blue that of solitude. A good example in excellent condition.
